Argentina (AR) — civil law.

Nothing on this page describes United States practice. There is no certificate sold to an investor, no administrative sale of land for unpaid tax, and no redemption window after a subasta judicial in Argentina. If you arrived carrying US assumptions, read falsos-amigos first.

Unidad de Valor Adquisitivo (UVA)

Since 2016 most Argentine mortgage lending has been written not in pesos and not in dollars but in units. A borrower owes “X UVA”; each month the bank converts the units due into pesos at that day’s published value. This page explains what the unit is and where it comes from. What happens when a UVA mortgage is executed — the fact pattern, the ejecutado’s arguments, the risk allocation — is on hipoteca-en-uva.

Layer.

Everything on this page is national: BCRA regulation, a national statute and the national CCyC. The only provincial element is the procedural code of the court that executes the mortgage.

The opening section is open to everyone. The procedure in detail — statutes, deadlines, who may bid, and what the record does not say — is behind a free account.

We ask for one because writing these from primary sources is slow work, and knowing who relies on it tells us which country to do next.
