DNRPA — the vehicle registry
Unlike land — recorded in 24 provincial Registros de la Propiedad Inmueble — every
registrable vehicle in Argentina is on one national registry: the Registro Nacional de la Propiedad del Automotor, administered by the Dirección Nacional de los Registros
Nacionales de la Propiedad del Automotor y de Créditos Prendarios (DNRPA) under the
Ministerio de Justicia, and operated through local Registros Seccionales (RJA art. 7).
There are separate seccional competences for automotores, for motovehículos, and for
maquinaria agrícola, vial e industrial (M.A.V.I.). Each vehicle has a legajo holding
its title history, prendas, embargos, denuncias de robo, denuncias de venta and
bajas; the owner’s personal inhibiciones sit in a separate national index (the
Sistema Integrado de Anotaciones Personales).
For a buyer at a forced sale the DNRPA matters three times: before bidding (anyone may
order an informe de dominio and an informe histórico — Digesto Título II, Cap. XIV),
after paying (the court’s oficio is inscribed under Título II, Cap. II, Sección 4ª;
an art. 39 pledge sale under Sección 5ª; a public body’s auction under Sección 6ª
or, for unregistered vehicles, Cap. I, Sección 11ª), and at the end (lifting each
embargo is a separate registrable act). Fees are expressed in MRPA — a module worth
0.5 UVA, created by Res. MJ 308/2026 — and were re-tabled from 1 September 2026.
